Miller-Motte recently became the first “Legacy Partner” of the North Strand Housing Shelter, providing much needed financial and service support for the shelter’s expansion in 2014. Gaining a wing for homeless veterans and a wing for families, the shelter’s new facility will add 5,000 square feet, enabling the shelter to house 53 people. Covering the costs of operating the expanded facility poses a challenge to the shelter. Partners like Miller-Motte make meeting the challenge possible.
A leader in private career education for over three-quarters of a century, Miller-Motte’s core mission is to provide students with an education delivering real-life career skills and the necessary support to successfully embark on a new career. Miller-Motte Technical College offers Associate Degrees and diploma programs in fields including: Medical Assisting, Massage Therapy, Medical Office Assistant, Clinical Office Assistant, Cosmetology, and Esthetics.
Miller-Motte’s military liaison will work with the North Strand Housing Shelter, connecting veteran shelter guests with the school. Miller-Motte will assist all shelter guests in areas such as personal services, resume writing and with job fairs.
The North Strand Housing Shelter and Miller-Motte both have a mission to change lives and to change futures. “It is no longer about business as usual but more about relationships, authenticity and impact,” said Meredith Kennedy, Campus Director at Miller-Motte. “We are thrilled to have Miller-Motte as our first ‘Legacy Partner’,” said Dana Black, Executive Director of the North Strand Housing Shelter. “This opens so many possibilities for those that need a “hand-up”.
